The Bottom Line:
Comes in handy in certain situations such as traveling or presentations.
My husband is in to "geek points" and he has really racked them up in 2004. If you are a technical geek you already know all about this and already have all the gadgets. A person gets geek points for having fancy or nonsense technology, and extra points for being the first one in their circle with it.
Now, let me introduce you to a toy my husband just HAAAD to have. He has actually uses it very little but loves it to pieces. The reason he HAAAD to have it is because he wanted it. There you go, that's the reason. It is a remote control for your computer or laptop. We used it a few times to watch DVD's while on vacation, or to listen to MP3's. We used it several times for showing our digital photos to people through the TV.
Description of the Remote
This remote has been sitting on my entertainment center for a year now and really fills the void of the remotes that are supposed to be there but are not. It is a black lightweight long and skinny remote. It has a red power button appropriately placed on the top left, and another appropriately placed mute button on the top right. The next layer of buttons are the numbers 1 through 9 in black and have the small ABC's on the numbers like a phone would. The channel up and down button is a little smaller and in gray on the left side. Volume up and down are small gray buttons on the right side. At the narrowest area in the middle there are four directional black pad keys with a round ok button in the middle. Directly below that a menu bottom and an exit button. The next set of buttons is play, pause, stop, fast back, fast forward, record, review, and forward. The final set of buttons on the bottom are red, green, yellow, and blue which are configurable macro buttons. My only complaint is that configurations are limited, like you can't configure it to check your email.
Using the Remote
The buttons and shape of the remote is a little different than any remotes we have had. The hand fits nicely into the middle. It is easy to hold on to which would come in handy if you were giving a presentation. It is not going to fall out of your hands, the buttons are spaced far enough away that you do not fat finger it, and the items are marked well enough that you will not have to squint and hold it to your nose to figure out which button you need. The remote is long and does not get lost. I do not think that I have ever had to look at it and the colorful buttons at the bottom are an immediate reminder which gadget this remote goes to.
USB
The USB infrared receiver cable is 1.9 meters in length. The base actually feels really lightweight and cheap to me. It is small, thin, and compact and fits nicely in a laptop bag.
What it does
One of the most obvious things this can be used for is Power Point slides. You can stand in the back instead of the front, or roam around the room. There is so much more that can be done with the remote. This controls 145 media applications such as Windows Media Player, iTunes, Rhapsody, RealPlayer, Winamp, PowerPoint, and MusicMatch Jukebox. You can use it to play your MP3's and change them from across the room or fast forward through a DVD or wireless control of your mouse. The remote is marketed to reach 40 feet away; I have never had a problem with the distance that the remote reached.

Purchasing
We purchased our Streamzap for $30 over a year ago at Comp USA or you can get it online at somewhere like Tiger Direct.
Overall
Overall this did exactly what is said it would do for us. It is still working after a year and has been dropped and transported around in a laptop bag so I feel confident in its durability as well. Some people may get a lot of good out of this especially if they are using their laptop for DVD, TV, and music. This would also be valuable for individuals who do a lot of presentations. We really have not used it very much but when we did people were impressed. I think it is worth the $30 and would recommend it to others in need of extra geek points.
