Nice Radio-Broken SAME Weather
Pros
durable, great charger, great speaker
Cons
SAME Weather is non-functional, belt clip is risky!
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
Good choice if you if you can live with the broken SAME weather function and aren't very active. Not good for a PWC.
I have had this radio for almost 2 years. Overall it works as advertised with one exception. The controls are intuitive and easy to access. The display is bright and easy to read at all but extreme angles. XMit power and battery life are pretty good and it has held up to my occasional dips into the water. The speaker is better than many handhelds. It is a bit heavier than some compacts but I think that is in part due to the well made case (metal alloy). I don't care for the flip-off belt clip since it occasional falls off my belt! But many will love it if they aren't to active. I would prefer a standard belt clip like some of their older models. It charges quickly and I love the fact the the charger is self regulating which means you can leave it on the charger w/o burning up the battery.
Biggest complaint is the totally useless SAME weather function. It will alert on every weather alert. Not just the ones that match your county as it is supposed to. I have returned it twice to Uniden for repair and am waiting for the second return. I have the same problem with another Uniden radio (also repaired twice) and suspect that they just don't know how to implement SAME correctly in ANY of their VHF radios.
