Excellent, makes movies and music so much fun.
Pros
Looks, sound quality, construction, price.
Cons
I can't afford two of them.

Yes
The Bottom Line:
This is the price point where you are going to get excellent sound quality and power that you most likely won't need all of. Delicious sound!
I have used my 12 inch SPL II for two years now and can say this is everything I hoped for in a sub.
It has thrilled me and my guests with every movie we watch. The bass is tight and powerful. Its tones are true and clear. It has more power than most people need, which is exactly where you'd want to be with a sub. There is nothing worse than cranking up a lesser sub and hearing it break up during the movie. This Velodyne doesn't do that. I can turn it way up to the point that it hurts my ears, yet it doesn't show signs of being overdriven. It is in a room 25' x 12'
The only people who should consider the DD line are those who have a very large room that was designed to be sonically treated to be like a recording studio. Half of the money anyone should spend on a home theater should spend that money on sound treatments for the room such as sound traps, baffling, etc. If you don't know what this is, don't worry about it. The thing is, the incrementally smaller benefits of the DD line and in general all high end speakers are all lost in a room that is not sonically treated. The SPL series has amazing sound that would work great in any space, without the extreme price. For those with large rooms that aren't sonically treated, I'd recommend a 2nd SPL 8/10 or 12 to fill up the space.
