Envious of my LG enV2 cell phone? Probably not.
Pros
texting, reception, call quality, durable, lots of options
Cons
can't access everything from front of phone
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
This is an average phone. It's good for texting. This would be good as a first cellphone for preteens or early teens.
DISCLAIMER: I am NOT an electronics guru. If you are looking for a high-tech review, you will not find it here. I have used this phone for almost 2 years and am describing my experience about the phone.
I can't wait until my contract is up in February so I can buy myself a brand new cellular phone. In February, I would have the LG EnV2 for 2 years. I have been a Verizon Wireless for almost 10 years. The phone is mediocre. The reason why I got this phone was that I was due for an upgrade. My sister and I both got the enV2 phones for $50 each.
Basics
When the phone is closed, it measures 4 inches long and 2 inches wide. The phone comes in two colors, black or maroon. I chose black. The front has a small, 3.4 inch screen. The number buttons are flat. There is an OK button, SEND button, PWR END button, MUSIC button, CLR button, and up and down buttons.
When you open the phone, the screen is about 2.5 inches. There are speakers on each side of the screen. There is a full keyboard, with very tiny buttons. There are two buttons towards the top of the phone that make selections. On the right side of the phone is a jack for headphones and a microSD chip. The other side has the volume control and camera. You can flip the phone open 180 degrees, or 135 degrees.
To talk on speakerphone, you keep the phone open. When closed, you hold the phone vertically.
I do like the phone - it is pretty small, but big enough to text and talk.
Reception
One word - awesome. I rarely lose calls on this phone.
Call quality
Voices come through loud and clear with minimal echoing. I don't hear much buzzing. Everyone hears me when I put them on speakerphone.
Battery Life
I go about 2/3 days without charging my phone. For the amount of time I am on the phone making phone calls and texting, I think this is pretty reasonable.
Camera/Video
The camera is integrated into the phone and is 2 megapixels. It does not have a flash, which stinks. I use the camera pretty frequently to take pictures of random things that occur in my life. You can take pictures with the phone open or closed. You can also record video. I take videos when I babysit and show the parents what their kids have been up to while they were gone. The video and sound quality comes out pretty good for a 2 megapixel phone.
Bluetooth
I have paired this phone with my GPS and a headset. It is very easy to pair. You can be pretty away from the phone and still have decent quality. This is great for when I have my headset on and I am cleaning or doing chores around my house.
Settings & Tools
This phone gives you a lot of options and helpful tools. I use the alarm clock, tip calculator, calculator, and calendar on a regular basis. They give you options for your display, wallpaper, text, call, and alert sounds. When you scroll through the options you can go through the different options and select the one that fits your personality. I think I've had the same settings since I've had the phone.
From the Front
When the phone is closed, you can only access contacts, messaging (using keys on the front), recent calls, my music, Bluetooth menu, and key guard settings. You can also dial the number and make a call. You can't text over 160 characters. You can't access everything from the front. It's annoying and one of the biggest disadvantages of the phone. I would have liked to been able to see the sent messages from the outside. You can see your inbox of text messages, but not sent messages.
From the Inside
You can access everything. You can go to your contacts and message people. The menu includes the media center, messaging, contacts, e-mail, mobile IM, my ringtones, recent calls, VZ Navigator, and settings & tools. The default ringtones suck, but I have my friends send me sounds through text messages so I don't have to spend money. I have used Mobile IM. I connect my phone to my AIM and am able to message people on my buddy list. My mom blocked access to the media center (to buy ringtones), internet, e-mail, and VZ Navigator. (I did not purchase a microSD card, either.) I have not used these features. I love texting from the inside. The full keyboard allows me to type messages quickly.
Bottom Line
It's a decent phone. I can make phone calls. I can text easily. I can navigate fairly easily. The reception and call quality is good. The phone is lightweight. It is also pretty durable. Even though I have a horrible cover, the phone is still is in good condition. I have no had problems with the screen, buttons, or anything else in regards to this phone.
I don't like how I can't access certain things from the front of the phone. This is the biggest problem for me. The battery life is mediocre.
I can't wait for an upgrade so that I can get a Blackberry. I want more of a smart phone that has all the extras (internet, music, etc). I also want a touch-screen and a full keyboard. I don't want a flip phone anymore.
I feel that this phone would be good for a pre-teen or teenager. It's basic, not too complicated, and works decently well.
I have had the same phone since the first time I bought it 2 years ago.
I could take it or leave it. 3 stars.
Thanks for the read,
Danielle
PS. Do NOT buy this phone cover. You will be disappointed. You will waste your money.
