LG Env2 Cell Phone, complete with a headache!
Pros
Has good features
Cons
Has way too high of an expectenacy to go defective
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
The Env2 consists of good ideas and features packed into a terrible implementation. Whatever LG did to assemble this thing, they did it with cheap, unreliable technology.
To start off, I'd like to say I'm not writing from the perspective of an incredibly picky American consumer. I don't need the latest and greatest technology, or change phones every two months when something new comes out. I am writing from the eyes of a customer who expected the phone, at the very least, to at least just do it's job.
Is it good or bad? I won't have much to say about the Env2, but I will have mostly negative to say about it. On paper, and in the conference room at LG, the Env2 is good. How much can you say about a cell phone? The interface is nice, it has useful tools like an alarm clock, calculator, tip calculator, calendar, etc. When it functions, it's a great phone, especially for those who don't need a $500 Donald Trump phone.
With that said, notice I said it's a great phone “when it functions”. My issues are not with the features of the phone, or its design. But what I think LG has done is manufactured the Env2, using electronics parts that they scrapped from a dumpster. Nothing lasts on this phone. I take very good care of my phones. I have owned it for about a year and a half, dropped it probably a total of 2 or 3 times, from low heights that don't threaten the condition of the phone. I never let water get on it, and keep it protected for the most part. How am I rewarded for my protectiveness against letting the phone get damaged? I get a slew of problems anyway!
Problems?
Issue #1: Where to begin! The first issue occurred just a couple months after getting the phone. The phone would randomly shut it self off completely. I would pull it out of my pocket to check for new calls or messages, and it would be off. I thought maybe it was my fault, maybe I somehow was in a position where there was pressure on the END button for 3 or 4 seconds to turn it off. I ensured that I had the 2-step keyguard enabled. Still the problem started happening more and more often. I decided to clean the contacts on the battery itself, and the the battery contacts on the phone, too. That seemed to fix the problem momentarily. It eventually came back, but I was able to get rid of it again. It's doubtful that this piece of junk will stop shutting off for good.
Issue #2: The next of the Env2 issues on the timeline is with txting or any kind of typing with the QWERTY keyboard on the phone. The issue first started as just a problem with the N key. I was noticing that the N key was producing 2 or 3 N's when I had only hit the key once. Since I look at the keyboard when I type on a phone, I thought it was just me. I had never caught it in action. Once in a while was ok, but it gradually became more and more frequent. Then, it began to happen with more letters. As if getting annoying duplicates weren't enough, all of the keys decide to stop typing the letter now and then. After typing a long txt message, I will look up on the screen and notice a bunch of missing letters from words in the sentence(s). This forces me to go back and re-enter all the letters that never showed up. Upon re-entry, sometimes it takes me 4 or 5 times to press the button before the letter actually shows up. Even the “symbols” key does this, so I will have the letter M somewhere where the ? Mark should be. This happens during txting, entering notes, calendar appointments, anything using the keyboard.
Issue #3: While this isn't nearly as frequent or annoying as Issue 2, it certainly still boils my blood. Simply put, it's another button defect. When the phone is closed, I have the keyguard enable and will prompt me to press OK and then CLR before I can access the phone from the front panel. Just like the keyboard issues, the OK button decides when it's going to work, and when it won't work. I've developed a habit of pressing OK 3 or 4 times quickly, before pressing CLR.
Conclusion? I'm not sure how many people actually consider buying the Env2, as it's outdated now. However, cross this piece of garbage off of your “things to get” list. I think the phone is made with really cheap hardware and is just overall low quality. I know two other people with the phone and have witnessed their phones doing the same thing as mine, with slight difference. Stay away from this thing, it's garbage.
