The Bottom Line:
If you want reliability and durability, this is the phone for you. Practical and good looking, it gets the job done.
I was sorely in need of an upgrade and was taken by the appearance and feel of this phone. I got the maroon/black model through Verizon. It was $99 with a $50 rebate and renewal of my account.
The keyboard is typical QWERTY, of good size (although at first I was hitting two buttons at once) and weight. It doesn't feel flimsy, but solid even when open to reveal the keyboard. The inside screen is large and easy to read. The outside screen is a little on the small size, but is still very clear. The only complaint I have about the keyboard is that the "clear" button is right next to the "space" button, and I've occasionally hit the clear by mistake. But that's a minor thing.
A very nice feature of the keyboard is a "sym" (symbol) key that you can use to type different characters or symbols. This comes in very handy. There is also a "fn" (function) key for shortcuts, which saves a lot of clicking when you're trying to get to something like your alarm clock.
One of my favorite features about this phone is that you can accept an incoming call by opening the phone (revealing the keyboard). Since that puts the speakers up at an angle, the caller is easy to understand and the phone doesn't vibrate or distort the sound.
The 2.0 camera is so-so, but probably because I need more practice using it. I tend to get my fingers in the way when taking pictures. The few pics I've taken did not come out very clear, but it could have been fuzzy because of shaking on my part.
There are so many features on this phone, it's almost impossible to list. There's everything from music capabilities, texting, calculators, clocks, picture and video messaging, Bluetooth compatible, web, tip calculator, calendars, and more. Some very different sounds are available for ring tones or alarms, but basic phone ringers are available in case you just want a plain old ring. Another handy feature is the fact that you can adjust the amount of time the screens are lit up, saving on battery life.
I'm very impressed with the battery life. It will take almost three or four days before I even lose one bar, and have yet to have the battery drain completely out. It probably gets plugged into the recharger maybe once a week. Even using it in places that squashed my previous phone (like large buildings or tunnels) amazes me because it works flawlessly. It's a powerful little phone.
One thing I really like about it is that it has less buttons on the sides than my previous phone (another LG model). There's volume up/down and the phone button. That's it, making it easy to maneuver around without having to be looking at the buttons. The keys on the exterior are also of nice size, easy to read and very clear.
My only complaint about this phone is that it has a very weak vibrate. You have to admit, if you're going to put your phone on vibrate, you need something that's going to kick you to let you know you have a call. The vibrate on the enV just kinda tickles you as if you ask, "Well, do ya wanna talk to them or not?"
One thing that took a little while to get used to is the automatic lock on the exterior keyboard, which is a safety feature in case you bump a key and start dialing while it's in your pocket or purse. Just a quick click of the "OK" button puts it back into ready mode.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the enV2 and would gladly purchase another when the contract is up. And I should also add that reception on this phone is clear as a bell. I have had Verizon since before it was called Verizon and have never had any problem with them. So the combination of an awesome little phone with an awesome big company makes for a happy me.
