Nice phone, some things better, some things not.
Pros
Smaller and lighter than the original. Very sharp display.
Cons
More functions require going into the menu, less direct function buttons.

The Bottom Line:
Great reception. Thin. Sharp display. Many many features. QWERT keyboard.
I really liked my ENV phone. It was a little heavy and thick, but I could live with that. Great reception. Easy to use. Sadly, it kept dying on me. After several attempts to correct the problem, Verizon finally replaced it. Since they were out of the ENV, they gave me a new ENV2 instead.
So, I will compare the ENV2 to my ENV.
First of all, I had an ORANGE ENV which everyone liked. My new ENV2 is black, very utilitarian, not flashy or hot.
The new ENV2 is definitely lighter in weight and definitely thinner as well. You can carry the ENV2 in your shirt pocket and not feel uncomfortable. The original ENV was heavy and thick. It did not feel right in a shirt pocket.
Reception seems to be on par with the original ENV. I've been impressed with the ENV phones and their reception ability. I can connect while shopping in many stores and malls, and very seldom do I have a problem. I can even send pics from inside most stores.
I prefered the ENV outer screen to the new ENV2 outer screen. The new screen seems smaller, maybe because it is a wider display rather than a longer display, compared to the original ENV.
However, I can read the time on the new ENV2 much easier. The numbers are larger and the contrast seems sharper.
I do like the large inside screen on the new ENV2 and I think it is better and easier to view than the original ENV. The black background and high contrast white lettering makes texting easier to see. Colors are very vivid.
The keyboard, a QWERT board, is a must for me, and this ENV2 again features this. However, the keys on the original ENV seemed just slightly larger and may have been just a little easier to use by me. My fingers have a harder time trying to tap the correct keys when they are too small.
This ENV2 again features stereo speakers. I don't really see much use in them being stereo. As much as I love audio equipment, I can't justify this. Maybe if the phone featured spacial imaging to throw the sound outward to the far left and right. As it is, an inch or two between speakers still sounds like a monophonic speaker to me. However, on the ENV2, I think the sound quality is better. More detail when playing music.
As was the ENV, I don't consider the ENV2 to be all that loud, which is surprising, considering it does feature stereo speakers which should effectively increase the sound output of this phone.
The buttons on the outside of the ENV2 are noticably larger than the original ENV. That is a big plus. Easier to see and easier to tap.
I think the ENV2 is complicated to use compared to the ENV. For instance, on the ENV, if I wanted to ignore an incoming call, I could tap the IGNORE button. On the ENV2, I have to go into a menu which takes a couple steps to accomplish the same task. The same holds true for bringing up your CONTACT LIST and so on. LG seems to have omitted some useful direct function buttons on the ENV2. That's too bad.
The camera is still a great 2.0 MP. That's one of the best cameras out there for any phone. I did like the original ENV having a cover for the camera lens. The new ENV2 does not have a lens cover.
The new ENV2 uses a different connecting charger, so if you upgrade to the ENV2, your old ENV chargers will not work. And your ENV pouch or case will be too big as well.
I don't care much for the chrome strip around the edge of the new ENV2. I think it makes the unit look cheap. I liked the solid colored case of the original ENV.
The ENV2, like the original, has many features, too many for this review. If you require emailing, web connection, Verizon navigating, music playing, etc, etc, this ENV2 pretty much does it all.
If I had to choose between the ENV and the new ENV2, I'm not sure which way I'd go. I really do like the lighter and thinner phone. The ENV was very heavy as phones go. And it was thick, almost like carrying a candy bar in your pocket. The ENV2 is more comfortable in that regard, hands down. But some features were more easily accessable on the old ENV. I really liked my burnt orange phone. The all black ENV2 is drab and ho-hum. It looks like everyone else's.
Oh well, I got this phone for free. Free is always the best feature.
