The Bottom Line:
At this price point I find it difficult not to recommend.
I purchased the ViewSonic VX2235WM for the amazing price of $205.00 without any rebates or special promotions. I have seen it since creep back up to the $250 range, but I would still recommend it at that price.
Rather than get into the details and specifications (such as refresh rates, max resolutions, etc.) I will keep this review short and sweet from the end-user perspective.
I am currently using the monitor in an office environment, connected to a laptop computer. I am using it on the stand, instead of the wall mount. I did notice that the mount only moves up and down and cannot swivel. Not a big deal, but if you do need to spin it left or right, it is a behemoth to move.
The first thing you will notice is this thing is huge. Rather, the screen is huge, as it actually has a very thing and compact form factor. The black and silver plastics that it was made from are very high quality, and have a nice gloss finish in them that you do not see on inexpensive monitors. For those of you currently at 17 or even 19" displays, you will be amazed at just how much larger this monitor is.
I am connected via VGA inputs, and have not experienced any signal quality drop. I have also run on DVI, for only a slight video improvement. I run at high resolutions, but mostly office documents, email, and excel. I have not tested it in length with videos, but the short ones that I have run look fantastic.
The picture is very clear, had no dead pixels, and does very well with shading of colors. It is also much brighter than many monitors you will see in the same price range. The clarity is extremely sharp, not something you usually see in this price range.
My only gripe with the monitor is that the speakers are not very loud, nor of good quality. Additionally, adjusting the volume requires you to jump through a series of menus as there are no shortcuts on the monitor itself.
For the office or home user, I would recommend this monitor at the price. Viewsonic is also a well-known company and has been around for years.
