The Bottom Line:
If you are looking for great picture quality, you can't go wrong with the Viewsonic G90f.
Once again, we found ourselves needing a new monitor to replace the old Samsung monitor on the kids computer. My husband instantly started looking at the ViewSonic line of monitors, we were very pleased with our ViewSonic E70, so this was the first brand he wanted to look at. He saw the ViewSonic G90f and instantly loved it. Now I'm thinking, what do the kids need a graphic 19" monitor for? He convinced me that since I am into creating graphics, we can swap out the monitors, give the kids the ViewSonic E70 and I use the ViewSonic G90f on my computer. I can now say that I love this monitor, it did take me a little time to get used to the larger screen resolutions, but everything comes across crisp and clear.
Basics
The monitor is a 19" monitor with a 18" viewable screen, as I said before, it did take time for me to adjust to it since I was used to my 17" monitor. It's the standard beige color of most monitors, but can be purchased in black also.
Features
0.21mm horizontal and 0.25mm diagonal dot pitch - ViewSonic says that this is an ultra-fine dot pitch to help make your images come across the screen crisp and clear.
1600 X 1200 maximum resolution - It has a total of three different resolution settings, 1600 X 1200 @ 77Hz; 1280 X 1024 @ 89Hz; and 1024 X 768 @ 118Hz. Most people like using the maximum resolution, but we've had ours set on the 1280 X 1024, I just can't get used to seeing everything so small on the maximum resolution, I was so used to the 800 X 600 screen resolution we used on the E70, that I just couldn't adjust to the highest setting on this one.
OnView - This is the onscreen menu system consisting of four buttons on the front of the monitor. This is very easy to use to adjust the settings on the monitor. This is the same as on our E70, but the great thing is that you really don't have to mess with any of these.
The menu consists of: Contrast/brightness, H. Size/H. Position, V. Size/V. Position, Pincushion/Pin Balance, Trapezoid/Parallel, Tilt, Moire Reduction, Degauss, ViewMeter, ViewMatch Color, Language, and Memory Recall.
The buttons are very easy to use and marked clearly as to how they are used.
ARAG screen treatment - This is the anti-static, anti-reflective screen treatment that helps keep the glare from bright lights interfering with the screen. I can have an overhead light on in the dining room, where the computer is, and not have it affect the monitor.
ENERGY 2000, ENERGY STAR, and TCO '99 compliant - Meets all the standards, I love the fact that the screen goes off after 15 minutes of non-use, negating the need for a screensaver.
OSD lock - This prevents accidental adjustments from happening with the OnView controls, great if you have little kids that like to push buttons.
PC and PowerMac compatible - You may need to buy an adapter to hook up to a Mac system.
USB-compatible base - According to ViewSonic, the base allows integration on an optional ViewSonic USB hub for USB peripheral connections. I haven't tried this part out.
PerfectFlat screen - This helps reduce glares from lights on the screen and helps reduce image distortion.

Installation
Setting the monitor up was very easy, just hookup the monitor and Windows XP recognized it right away, I then installed the drivers and software and it was up and running with no problems.
Picture Quality
People had told me time and time again that graphics and pictures looked so much nicer on a larger monitor, you know the bigger, the better. Pictures are so crisp, clear and full of color on this monitor, it's just amazing. I really didn't think any monitor could get much better than my ViewSonic E70, but I was wrong. I've got a quite a few pictures of the kids, taken with my digital camera, and when I viewed them on this monitor it was a definite improvement from the other one. The higher screen resolutions really make a difference.
Size
Be prepared, this monitor is fairly large and takes up quite a bit of desk space measuring in at 18.3" H x 17.6" W x 18.1" D. It is also heavy, at least for me, at whopping 48 pounds.
My Thoughts
I love this monitor! I know I said that about my E70 too, but I really do love this one. In the few months that I have used the ViewSonic G90f, I haven't had any problems at all. The picture quality is awesome, I didn't think there could be that much room for improvement from our other ViewSonice monitor, but I was wrong. The OnView controls are very easy to use if you want to play around with the picture, although I don't like to mess with them when the picture already seems perfect as it is.
If you're looking for a 19" monitor, I would recommend you definitely check out the ViewSonic G90f, you can't go wrong with the picture quality and it won't cost you a fortune.
