The Bottom Line:
This is a great TV/PC monitorĀ and hard to beat feature-wise for the price. I highly recommend it to anyone on a budget!
This set is now known as VO22LF (now full HD)
I've been looking for a good deal on a Full HD TV to replace my aging Sony XBR, and happened across this gem at Sam's Club (also sold at Costco). This set has a full HD resolution of 1080p, as well as 1080i and 720p and 480i. Included is a ATSC/NTSC/QAM tuner, so you can receive all QAM HD channels transmitted by your cable company as long as they aren't encoded (pay channels, for example).
Setting up the unit out of the box was a breeze, the stand snaps onto the bottom of the mount in a few seconds. This unit is VESA compatible, so you can get a mounting arm and put it on your wall if you wish.
I hooked up the cable line and ran the search channel function. In all, I can receive over 200 channels on my cable system, many of them are HD and hopefully most will be available in HD when the switchover is complete next month.
The picture quality is as good or better than any major brand TV that I have observed, although you might need to tweak the factory default settings some to obtain optimum picture quality.
There are two front-firing speakers on the lower part of the front panel bezel, and the audio is more than loud enough for a normal sized room such as a bedroom, where most people would be using a set this size. There is a distinct lack of bass, due to the size of the speakers, but this is normal on pretty much any set such as this one.
There are myriad inputs on the back, and all of them face downward. To my mind, this is a plus because when they stick straight out the back, they have a tendency to get in the way if you mount the set to a wall. Since they come downward, you can bundle them together and make your installation much neater.
Here are the inputs and outputs on this set:
Inputs
RF (F Connector for internal tuner): 1
HDMI with HDCP: 2
Analog Stereo Audio for HDMI Inputs: 1
Component YPbPr plus Stereo Audio: 1
Composite Video: 1
S-Video plus Stereo Audio: 1
Computer RGB plus Stereo Audio: 1
Service Port: 1
Outputs
SPDIF Digital Optical Audio: 1
Headphone (Stereo Mini-Jack): 1
I have been using this set as a SVGA monitor as well, and it performs quite well in this capacity. I have it hooked up to my old Dell 3000 and the video cardĀ in my PC struggles with providing the resolution necessary for this set, but I expect when I upgrade my desktop, I will buy a graphics card that will be able to show this monitor in all its glory. Because my PC isn't able to provide the native resolution necessary for the monitor, some text looks grainy and the picture is stretched. However, this is not a fault of the monitor.
Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase, they even included a free HDMI cable and cloth to wipe the screen with in the box. I would definitely recommend this set to anyone on a budget that wants a combo TV and PC monitor. I was lucky enough to find one on clearance (open box) at Sam's Club for $185 recently, the normal price as of today for a new unit is $287.00 there.
Excellent budget TV for bedrooms/kitchen or dorm rooms where space is at a premium. Highly recommended.
