A good data drive, if you have patience
Pros
Capacity, size, price
Cons
Slower than molasses, aweful bundled backup software, short USB cord.
Recommended it?
Yes
I needed a portable, high capacity data drive that wasn't the size of a novel. For the price and size, I purchased the WDME5000 from best buy. Hookup was simple. It's USB 2.0 plug-n-play. It appears on your computer as a removable drive.
While the capacity is great, you must excerise patience when transfering files over to this drive as it is SLOW! Yeah, it's slow without the bundled backup software from Western Digital. A 10 GB transfer took about 2 hours, and that is just drag-n-drop. I can load files off the drive rather quickly though. It's the initial transfer that is painfully slow.
Western Digital included its own flavor of backup software. You can sync it to backup all or selected directories on your computer. Good luck! The software is at the edge of being useless. It's buggy, slow and confusing. Needless to say, I do not use it anymore.
For large capacity, in a small size, this is a great drive.
