The detector works fine and has definitely saved my skin a lot of times but I am not sure whether it is that effective for laser because I did find some cops in Atlanta pointing a laser gun at me but the detector did not go off. Other than that, it works smooth Read full review »
Value for the money
The Whistler 1740 reads K bands(Highway Cops) and X bands (City police) without interference from lowly garage door openers. It's small and silver. I actually was pulled over at night when I had it turned off, and the cop didn't see the detector, so he let me get away.

Whistler 1740 radar detector review
I have the "older" model whistler 1740 and have found it to be very effective.The main radar threat in our area {SC,NC and Georgia} is KA band and this little unit picks up KA band in plenty of time to slow down.It does,of course,pick up the automatic door opener,etc around town and I have found it...
