Great Cordless Radar Detector
I purchased my 1788 used and I think its a great radar detector. For those of you that are not satisfied with this unit, you may have got a bad one or you need to go and purchase a 500.00 radar detector if that will make you happy. I have owned many lower priced radar detectors but I favor the whistlers. I own two cordless units. A 1788 and a XTR 280. Both units perform great. It picks up X, K,KA and laser very well. The winshield mount is not very sturdy, especially if the unit is loaded with batteries. Makes the unit heavy. I mounted with a non-skid pad on the dashboards of both vehicles. You can also use it without the cordless mode and plug it in the lighter. I get pretty decent range picking up radar signals. Plenty of time to slow down. The blue lcd is very readable and the sound is not bad. I can get around 10 hours of steady use on a full charge. The most important thing about this unit is that I dont get alot of false signals. Its pretty quiet, especially if you turn off X band which LEO's do not use in my area. When it alerts me nine times out of ten its a true alert. I also have a Bel 980 and it falses much more than the Whistler 1788 and XTR 280. Its a great unit and reasonably priced
