Whistler DE-1788 Radar Detector

This is my first radar detector, and I've only had it a few days (9/2/06). I wanted one that was cordless because I thought it would be easier to manage. I like to research things and was able to find a review that gave it 4 Stars (but qualified the rating as that for a cordless unit). It is on sale with a $50 instant rebate at Radio Shack netting the price down to $99.99 until I believe 9/20/06. The aforementioned review called it the #2 cordless unit behind the $330 Escort Solo S-2, which it said was clearly the leader, but for more than three times the price! I called the Whistler group and found out that the Radio Shack Model, 1788-R, is identical to the regular unit (1788) , except that it doesn't come with an external battery charger. I have a charger already, and it can be charged with the included plug in cord anyway.
My second choice would clearly have been a corded unit (which is more sensitive) - the Bel Model 895. - a new model only at Radio Shack, for $149, and got a rave review calling it almost the equal of the Bel 995 which cost twice as much.
