Impressive Mid-Entry Detector

Pros Easy to use, effective dim, pleasant voice alerts, minimal false alerts, useful features, compact size.
Cons Bright metal suction bracket. I painted my flat black to help it blend in.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  If you're looking for a radar detector that is easy to use, detects well and is not over $200 this is the detector for you.
I purchased a Pro 73 two months ago. It has been many years since I had a radar detector...going back to the basic micro-eye brand that only picked up X-band. Radar detectors have come a long way since then. I did extensive research on detectors before deciding on the Whistler Pro 73. I wanted a detector that was not over $200 but still had ratings and features that would ensure I continue to use it on a regular basis.

Since purchasing the detector I found the menu easy to use and learn, the multiple modes and settings allow for the user to easily customize it to personal preferences. I have experimented using the 3 primary detection modes and the filters seem to work fairly well especially on City-1 &City-2 modes keeping X-Band signals down to a minimum. The unit has detected 8 radar signals to date including: K Band, Ka band, and POP...it failed to detect a known Laser trap but that was not surprising since most cops aim at license plates and it would be impossible for the detector to alert the driver. The laser would have to be aimed at or near the detector for it to alert. I was therefore not disappointed and not speeding at the time. I did not buy the detector to alert me to laser anyway. I was impressed on how well it detected a constant radar signal...the radar was set to continuous but the detector picked up the signal(K-Band) from around a slight bend at a level 4-5 and increased as I completed the curve in the road. It was set to City-1 mode at the time.

My main reason for purchasing the detector is to keep me honest on those days that I am in a rush, or just not paying attention to my speed. For the most part I have always tried to stay close to the speed limit, usually below the 10km so-called buffer speed. Even with the detector I do not speed any more than before.
