Pros blue display, weight
Cons range, range, range, false alerts

I bought this radar detector a year ago for a trip I was making from LA to Berkley. I bought it from Caplink for $128 plus shipping (I needed it asap). On the trip it did pick up most of the cops that I saw, but in most of the cases I had to see them before it picked them up, I also got a lot of... Read full review »

Impressive Mid-Entry Detector

byliferesq Oct 11, 2004

Pros Easy to use, effective dim, pleasant voice alerts, minimal false alerts, useful features,...
Cons Bright metal suction bracket. I painted my flat black to help it blend in.
Recommended it? Yes

I purchased a Pro 73 two months ago. It has been many years since I had a radar detector...going back to the basic micro-eye brand that only picked up X-band. Radar detectors have come a long way since then. I did extensive research on detectors before deciding on the Whistler Pro 73. I wanted a... Read full review »

Pros "If you are in the market to buy" don't let this one slip.
Cons May have something to add later, but right now I can't find any (-)

I have purchased several Radar Detectors over the years, and I can truthfully say. The Whistler Pro 73 is a fine detector, and I have no complaints about it's reliability .

The blue readout display can be seen even on bright sunny day's (with the windshield mount) and sun... Read full review »

Best for the Money $150 range, but an additional $50-150 gains a nice edge.

Pros It's everything they claim it is, but it's not quite a gold medal.
Cons Used gold is better than new silver. Get a new or used 8500 or RX65
Recommended it? No

I am swapping out my Whistler Pro 73 for an Escort 8500. It's not a bad unit. It is everything that it claims to be, and it is everything the tests show it to be, but it falses significantly more than a used Escort 8500 that I purchased on Ebay for $180. The Escort is more quiet, faster, more... Read full review »

Nice Detector For The $$$

bydon127504 Aug 25, 2005

Pros POP technology, snaps into bracket snugly, well-rated online reviews.
Cons Blue display is NOT intense as advertised, it's very hard to see in the daylight.
Recommended it? Yes

I had a really difficult time thinking about coughing up $300+ for the RX65 or Escort 8500 so I opted for the Whistler Pro 73 after reading favorable reviews online. I use it everyday and so far have been pleased with the performance. Probably the one detail that made me buy it was the POP... Read full review »

Pros Very good detector for the money
Cons Settings difficult to change in a dark car. Dash pad not much use to me.
Recommended it? Yes

*POP TM mode detection--radar and laser detector --gets the job done--total band protection--effective bands--x, k, Ka, laser
*stylish--bright blue text display
*fewer false signals (of any detector I've ever owned) probably due to 3 city settings--city, city1, city 2
*8 volume... Read full review »

Pros Great detection, nice features, very quiet and not obnoxious, has voice :)
Cons Hard to see in sunlight (most annoying con), no visor clip.

This thing performs very well.

Pro's - alerts me when a cop is near, and gives fair warning as well. 1+ miles no problem. City modes are nice to decrease false alerts. City 2 (no X band are detected).

Cons- Hard to read in direct sunlight. Wish it included something more... Read full review »

Cons I have nothing bad to say about this unit so far, time will tell.
Recommended it? Yes

I love this unit. I felt it was loaded with all the state of the art features of top models but at an affordable price. The blue light is wonderful but I agree that in sunlight it is a little hard to see but I do keep it on DIM. I live in a mountainous area where signals are bouncing everywhere so... I bought this product because of all the reviews but I have to tell you I was disappointed. It will give false signals alot. I have owned it for two months now and the speaker has just went out. In my wife's car I have an PNI RX7500 and it blows this detector alway. Read full review »

I did the usual internet research, read the reviews, the spec's. I knew I needed the Bel Pro Rx65 or the Escort 8500 X50, but they're just too pricey. The Whistler Pro 73 seemed to nudge close enough to all the spec's on the higher priced units so I took a chance.

I drive 25 miles each... Read full review »
