Yamaha HTR-5850 6.1 Channels Receiver

This is my second surround system my first was a Sony STR-DE875, the one thing I liked about the Sony is it has a blue light when the video was true surround sound capable and I was able to use my digital cable through the component input and get forced surround and true surround sound, and my DVD through optical for true surround sound, the sound was good but my remote control went bad within the unit. Now I bought the Yamaha 5850, I like the sound quality better than the Sony but the complaint I have is the only way to tell if it is surround is the bland lights on the unit also the component input is labeled for CD and at that you can't force surround so my digital cable is only stereo (2 speakers) unless the program is played in true surround, my CD player is only optical or A/V compatible so I can get all speakers working with it even though it plays only stereo. Another complaint I have is the remote control is stupid!!!! When programming for other devices I finally figured out you have to program the TV last or it will delete some of the other settings i.e. VCR, DVD etc. also with the digital cable I had to program it under the CD button.
