Sound quality, Design, Ease of use, Expandability, and superior quality workmanship.

none... it's slightly larger than other units, then again, it has larger sound!

The Bottom Line:
Highly recommended... this well designed micro-component system sounds like a full-sized one, and looks fantastic!
When I decided to get rid of my huge home stereo, and replace it with something small, I wanted first and foremost to get a compact unit that had Great Sound. After extensive on-line research, I went to stores to listen and compare. I compared the sound quality of the Yamaha MCR E500 to the much-hyped JVC EX-A1, the Denon D-M31S, and the more inexpensive ONKYO MC35 Tech. All I can say is NO CONTEST! The sound that came out of the Yamaha was just amazing...crisp highs, and full-bodied lows, with clarity and big sound that just blew me away (the Denon sounded great too, but for the same features I'd be spending more money on the Denon D-M50). Then I noticed the workmanship and design. The receiver and 3 disc CD changer are separate components, the receiver has 5 inputs, along with a sub-woofer output, so it's VERY expandable... the 3-CD platter is well designed, compared to the flimsy ONKYO model since all three CD's are sandwiched within one platter, rather than a 'stack' of thin plastic 'mini' platters. One more thing... this unit sounds great without having all those goofy little buttons typical on many mini-stereos, which seem to need 'base boost',etc. in order to improve the sound quality. Overall, this is a solid, great sounding system that also looks as great as it sounds!!
