Great Product!
Pros
Good Sound, Easy To Use, Full Featured, 2 Optical Inputs
Cons
Average Manual, Average Titling Functions, High Priced
Recommended it?
No
I already have a Yamaha rack system and I wanted to stick with Yamaha. I wanted a high end MiniDisc Player/Recorder that was full features and the MDX-793 fits the bill.
My experience using this product has been positive and I have had no problems with this product. I found the product easy to install and easy to use. I really liked the multiple TOSLINK optical inputs with easy up front control.
The quality of MiniDiscs that are produced by this recorder in both the digital and analog modes were outstanding! I have tried this unit with several brands of blank MiniDiscs and found the Sony, Dennon, and TDK seem to produce the best sounding MiniDiscs.
I found the users manual that shipped with the product to be average. It is no better or no worse than any other Yamaha manual. You may have to read some of the sections over a couple of times to understand how to use some of the advanced features.
The titling functions of the unit were easy to use and easy to understand. Although the titling functions were not as easy to use as they are on some units, the MDX-793 is able to get the job done.
Nice remote, but it isn't back lit or glow-in-the-dark.
In a perfect world the MDX-793 should cost a lot less than you will find it. At the price that most people charge for this unit, it really only makes it appeal to Yamaha owners or people who happen to get a deal on it. I have used Sony units that cost $150 less than what I paid for the MDX-793 and they were just as easy to use and sounded just as good. I would really only suggest that Yamaha owners look at this product, everyone else should look at a Sony.
