Great Receiver for clearer sound

Pros Clarity and crispness in both music and movie modes. 192/24 DACs on all channels.
Cons Sounds a little TOO bright (crisp) in my opinion
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Great receiver if you are looking for the digital (ie..bright) sound from both movies and music. It might also help if you have warmer sounding speakers.
Yamaha has consistently made great products. I own an RX-V590 receiver which I purchased in 1996. After almost 7 full years of usage, it still is ticking and no need of repairs in sight.
The sound however is more important to me than repair history (of course depending on how severe the repairs are). So I needed an upgrade to digital. I purchased the RX-V1300 for $719.00 at goodguys. I took it home and matched it up against the $719.00 Onkyo TX-SR700 I already had at home.
Same speakers (Bose AM-7) and same media (DVDs and music CDs). The sound is very similar in these two models. There is definately more clarity to the Yamaha, which might be a result of the 192/24 DACs on all channels vs. just the front L/R of the Onkyo. I found myself leaning toward the Onkyo however because of this! In my opinion the Yamaha sounded a bit too "digital", meaning that it was a little too crisp.
This was enough to make me buy the Onkyo over the yamaha. The remote of the Onkyo is nicer and easy to use. I also prefered the Onkyo receiver style which is simple yet sleek.
For those seeking an extremely clear and crisp sounding receiver go for the Yamaha. However for my money there are better more realistic sounding receivers out there.
