Yamaha sets the pace!

My first experience with this receiver was 5 months ago. At that time I was actively employed in the industry. I wanted to buy a full performance digital receiver, and Yamaha for years had been an innovative leader in surround sound. The RXV-495 is loaded with not only current technology, but it is upgradable. The unit has what I call 'comp' power. 60 WPC x 5 channels at 8 Ohms, 20Hz to 20 kHz at 0.04% THD. That is a full bandwidth rating. Don't be fooled by false and uncommon specs. Always measure an amplifiers performance by full bandwidth. And this is 'Yamaha' power...stable to 2 Ohms on the front channels giving you dynamic 'peak' power of 145 Watts/Channel. What that means is that it kicks! It'll handle the the explosions of 'Saving Private Ryan', and you'll think you're on the beach. There is also a subwoofer out, to connect a powered subwoofer to. The unit also has a unique 6-channel external input. The manual suggests it is for an outboard processor of a future format. It can also be used on the next generation of CD players. The unit has 2 optical digital inputs, as well as a single coax digital input so that up to 2 sources can be connected. The unit has 4 Video inputs and 3 Audio inputs. The unit also has 2 Video outputs and 1 Audio output. The RXV-495 is also a fully featured Dolby Pro-Logic with Yamaha's proprietary Cinema DSP. It has basic Pro-Logic, the same technology that everyone has. It also has Enhanced Pro-Logic, as well as the award winning Cinema DSP. The receiver is also very much a stereo unit too. There is a signal level meter for FM sigals, that also shows when multi-path signals are being detected. All this for less than $400. I like its upgradability feature. It means I only have to buy one of these bad boys, because of the 6-channel inputs for the next generation of digital processor. There aren't many negatives about this receiver. Maybe front/rear pre-outs, but that is a feature its big brothers have, starting with the RXV 595A. The receive
