Triple tuning forks get five stars.
Pros
Incredible effects - great sound from any source. This is what Home Theater should be.
Cons
Skimpy speaker wire.

The Bottom Line:
This is what I needed to replace an older component based system and turn my stereo system to a surround sound system without breaking the bank.
The system was very well packaged and very well thought out. Picking out where to mount / how to mount the speakers took more time than setting up and integrating the system. Take your time during the speaker placement phase and you will congratulate yourself later.
The number(s) that the system boasts are very impressive. But the numbers only tell part of the story. Matched component(s) convert the signal to audible signal very nicely. The fun starts when you discover the EFFECTS menu. 70mm Spectacle, 70mm SCI - FI, 5-Channel, Concert Hall - I could go on, but the essence is this, - Play. Play with the effects. Back in the 80's we had graphic EQ's and "playing" consisted of moving sliders back and forth until we found a "Sweet spot". trouble was - it only lasted as long as the tape; then we had to change it. We've come quite a long way. With the modes the HTR-5440 surround AMP/Receiver has, you find the mode for the movie (Sci-FI for Matrix, Adventure/ or Enhanced for Jurassic III) and select it and go. Couldn't be easier or more fun.
