Before you run out and buy a fully equipped HDTV from ANY manufacturer, do your homework. There are major differences among these critters.
This Zenith model sports electronic engineering by Hitachi, and it is superb. With the comb filter, even standard old analog TV looks fabulous on this monster. The set weighs 390 pounds, but moves easily on its built in wheels, and with the plethora of possible connections on the back, you will be moving it out fairly frequently.
The specs are readily available on the Zenith web site, so allow me to give you the subjective feed on this unit. I started with a Hitachi 53" rear projection set and found it to be exceptional. However it developed circuit board problems so the dealer replaced it. Since I had the room, we replaced it with a larger Hitachi, which was VERY impressive. Unfortunately, the case on this one was cracked, so it also was to be replaced. The dealer notified me that the new Zenith had just come in and was already equipped for HDTV, not just HDTV "ready." He also explained that the electronics in this unit were also by Hitachi. I did some homework checking engineering comments on this unit, which were impressive, and told them to bring it on in!
I will not bore you with the nightmare that ensued as a result of my rapid education in digital TV, suffice it to say that buying the set is just the beginning! Also, at the present time, there are only two HDTV channels broadcast by satellite, and in most cases, "digital cable" is NOT HDTV, but standard digital. (There is a BIG difference).
If you live in an area with broadcast HDTV, this set is about the best choice currently on the market. It comes with all sorts of bells and whistles, and provides a superb picture and a greatly improved viewing radius over earlier rear projection sets. Watching football makes you feel like you are on the field!
Unless you live in a true urban area where the TV service personnel connected with a dealership are extremely knowledgeable, you will be out of luck finding a tech to fine tune the set once it is in place. It should be fine tuned after set up, and the proud new owner is NOT the one to do it.
