A nicely sized unit with good features
Pros
Size cassette and CD, styling, quality seems good.
Cons
CD skips easily on minor bumps; no bookmarking.
Recommended it?
Yes
We are avid audiobook listeners, and wanted a portable unit that would play both cassettes and CD's, because a lot of library audiobooks are still on cassette. It also had to be as compact as possible, because the areas we use it in don't have a lot of shelf space. This guy is beautifully compact, and fits the bill.
I had not written up a review until now because the first one we purchased (from SonyStyle.com) had a problem with the cassette almost from the first week, and we had to replace it. I was pleased with the ease and speed of doing this through Sony, but not pleased with the fact that I was sent a "factory refurbished" unit to replace my new one, which was less than a month old.
That being said, I've got about a year of virtually daily use (and many hours) on the replacement E100, and it has been perfect in every way (except it's very sensitive to skipping on the CD with even a gentle bump), so there you go. I used the radio once during a power outage, and it worked fine, so I can say that as far as sound quality on voice, it is very good. Haven't played any music through it.
Note: this unit does NOT bookmark, even though I was told by SonyStyle that it did. This makes it inconvenient for listening to audiobooks on CD, because you have a keep a separate log of your place, so you can find it when you want to continue after stopping or turning off the power. Still, a minor inconvenience for the features and price. Otherwise, I'd give it 5 stars.
