bought as a replacement of a previous fail Phillips and Wal Mart brand units. Now this 3rd unit from Samsung failed with less than 1 yr under its belt. I used it to copy my NFL team each week. ONLY that. So, including playoffs/SB win, what, 20 discs? All units protected electrically via UPS power supply. All else on ups is fine, so it isn't electrical problem. I'm not sure what the problem is other than my tv screen is scrambled when running through this samsung. If I disconnect and use only the directv box/tv, all is clear. Not tv/box. It is the Samsung. Believe strongly failure from heat. There is no cooling fan inside, + it sits by itself on counter, so not surrounded by other hot electronic devices. When 1st turned on, I get about 5 minutes of clear view, then the screen scrambles. I have an electronic/electrical background, so this seems a good indication that when cool, ok, heats up fast and fails. I NEVER used the VCR section.
