HP 5550 Deskjet Printer

Pros Good quality print, basic model
Cons Incompatible cartridges, slow, big
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  It's a good printer if you just want something basic to get the job done.
I've had my Hewlett Packard 5550 Deskjet printer for about 3 ? years now (it came with the Mac Powerbook G4 when I bought it). Up until about last year the printer worked fine, it printed pretty good quality documents and even if I wanted to print a picture here and there it worked fine and the prints weren't too bad seeing as it's not a photo printer. However, sometimes it seems to jam frequently which can be rather annoying and I've had a few problems with the ink cartridges lately as well. I bought a new black and white cartridge and now it keeps saying that it is incompatible, even though it's the same exact model and type that I've used for the past few years! Also, the ink indicators aren't the best, it seems like the ink was low but the indicator on screen still showed it as being fairly full. All in all, it's a decent printer that seems to get the job, however it does seem to be quite bulky in size, so if you don't have much room on a desk or something, look for something else. It also seems to be slower than some of the newer printers and is definitely a basic kind of model (it doesn't have any screens on the printer or anything else – just 3 buttons).
