The Bottom Line:
I would rather play Russian Roulette alone than ever even see this product again. Just seeing the picture produces the flavor of bile in my mouth.
This was the worst pile of junk I have ever received. It made my Christmas suck worse than Kwanzaa. First off, they are right in that it is fairly easy to assemble. A monkey with matchsticks would be more useful though. The manual offers no help other than a diagram written by Venn himself. So, I get the thing hooked up and the Rear speakers don't work. The other problem I ran into is that there is no Power button on the remote. Hmmm, seems like that is an essential function of any remote. I know what you're thinking. This idiot just doesn't know where the Power button is. Oh yeah, check out their site and you will see I am telling the truth. They have a "Standby" button and that's it. Ok, now even worse than these two items was the fact that YOU CAN NOT TURN THE VOLUME DOWN! THIS IS LIKE HAVING TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS AND EXCLAMATION POINTS ALL THE TIME! You can turn the volume down on the radio and the DVD player, but the speakers play at the same volume no matter what the setting when run from the output on your TV. Basically, you have two options, "Absurdly Loud" and Off. But remember, you have to walk your behind up to the thing to turn it off because the remote is missing a power button. If I hadn't got this thing for free, I would put a pipe bomb in it and return it to the store that sells them. (For the record, that was just a joke as thanks to the Patriot Act, my activity is probably being monitored at this exact moment). Seriously, if you are considering buying this/giving it as a gift, please hit yourself in the face with a meat mallet as that will be a more enjoyable experience or your money back. Also, I am looking into buying the domains CobySucks.com or CobyCrapFactory.com as my disdain for this 1 product knows no bounds. Oh, and by the way, to remove any doubt that it was my settings (which I ran through every possible configuration and troubleshooting step possible), please see this little nugget from the Coby Manual for this product "To fully realize 2-channel sound, a Stereo TV or AV receiver is necessary." AKA "Our product sucks, now please buy more products to make it work correctly." Do yourself a favor and buy the Pioneer Surround Sound kit from Wal-Mart for $120. The only thing it doesn't have is the DVD player which is a joke anyway.
Update**It's actually the Rear and Center speakers that do not work (that is 3 out of 5). Also, I tired calling Coby Customer Service and received this message "All of our Customer Service Reps are currently assisting other customers. Please try your call again later. Click!" Well, at least their service matches the quality of their product...
