The Bottom Line:
I love this iBook! It's durable, powerful, portable, with a big hard drive. It's very easy to use and elegantly designed. Airport extreme wireless is easy to figure out.
This is my 6th Mac, and the best yet! It's a great value and I have hauled it all over the place and it's proven very durable.
I have previously owned PowerBooks which are wonderful, but more expensive. The durability, speed and power of this iBook made it an easy choice.
The battery lasts about 5 hours and I can surf the internet in any part of my house or in a public place that has WiFi.
The wireless card (airport extreme) comes installed and it's very simple to figure out.
One reason I am drawn to Macs is that they are truly ready out of the box. I plugged this iBook in and it led me through transferring everything from my old computer in a few quick steps. I was on the internet in a few minutes.
And, Macs are less susceptible to viruses. Also, it looks cool!
Each time I buy a Mac, I ponder whether I should go for a cheaper PC. But Macs always seem to have less trouble than our PCs have had and don't have to be replaced so often. I don't have to buy extras, so it probably costs the same. I got this one from Amazon with a $150 rebate, so it was very affordable.
This particular iBook is very fast and has a big hard drive for all of my files. I have had it about two months and use it all the time-- it's never crashed or frozen. OSX is a very easy operating system and far more intuitive than Windows.
For example, I plugged my digital camera into the computer, and iPhoto automatically opened up and I was able to easily download and edit my pictures. I didn't even have to install my camera's software or try to figure it out.
The same thing happened with my iPod. I plugged it into the computer and iTunes opened with the same type of easy to use interface. iTunes also makes burning CDs a snap.
I am not a student nor a computer neophyte, but this computer would be perfect for either. The screen is large without making the computer heavy or unwieldy. If you desire an external keyboard, mouse or bigger monitor, it's easy to add them, but I just use it as is.
I really love this iBook. I am not one to get that worked up about technology, but this computer has great graphics and is fun to use. OSX is very clever and you can sense an artistic touch in its creators.
If you've never considered a Mac, they really are better than ever. I'd highly recommend an iBook. I'd advise anyone to go to Apple.com or an Apple store and look at them. Just like the iPod, these iBooks are really as easy to use as they say!
