The Bottom Line:
I highly recommend the purchase of the Apple iPod family of products. I'm a Windows/Microsoft fan, but this product is hands down the best.
I purchased a green Apple iPod Mini 4 GB a little over a week ago from an authorized Apple dealer for $179.00. I added the two year protection plan for $60, the Griffen iTrip for $40, a RhinoSkin aluminum case for $25, and a Griffen PowerPod car power cord.
Packing was neat and easily opened. I immediately charged the iPod fully; it took about 4 1/2 hours. I was able to somewhat easily install iTunes to my Windows XP Home Edition SP2 machine. Having done my research online, I was able to EASILY import my extensive MP3 collection to the iTunes library, in preparation for synchronizing with my iPod. From there, it was just a matter of connecting my iPod via the supplied USB 2.0 cable (it also comes with a Firewire, which my PC does not support). After a simple process of formatting the new iPod, I was off and running; it soon sync'd to my iTunes, importing my 90 "test" files in less than 4 minutes.
Since that time, I've learned how to edit the ID3 metatags containing identifying information about my tunes. I've been able to easily organize my collection and what's best is that the that iPod automatically updates itself without no help from me each time I plug it into the computer.
Owning an Apple iPod Mini has put the fun back into downloading music from the Internet for me. I've yet to import music from CD's or buy music from the Apple Music Store, but I'm sure that's soon to come.
I've owned 4 MP3 players, including an RCA Lyra and a product from Bantam. At nearly $80 each, the money I've spend on the Apple iPod will hopefully result in a product that lasts much longer (each of the cheap ones broke within 4 months of purchase).
Thanks to all of you that reviewed this product for your advice in this purchase. I can't wait to download more music!!!
