I want to give readers who are looking to buy a portable MP3/CD Player for the car a first hand account of my life with the iRiver iMP ChromeX. I have been using this product for about nine months and I ordered the car kit from iRiver. I believe you can get the car kit now when you buy the player for the same price as I paid for the player alone when I first bought it.
I have yet to put in a cd that this u nit doesn't play. It will play your mp3's, standard cd's, wma. wav. etc. It has a four line blue lit display that is easy to read. It does come with a pretty comprehensive owners manual that covers about anything you would want to know. I have also found the iRiver website useful and it is easy to upgrade this player as new firmware comes out.
The sound out of this thing is great, there are preset equalizer settings and one or two which are user programmable.I have had no problems with skipping and have used this player in all types of Weather and it always works great. The remote is handy, easy to learn, and a great help with the player in the car, you can do most everything from the remote without having to look away at the player.
MY first portable was the Riovolt by Sonicblue and I feel this iRiver Chrome X is a great improvement in its form and function and did I mention it looks very cool in the sea of portable music players. I can't comment on battery life since I use mine strictly in the car but I can tell you the quality is first rate and in the time I have used this product it has held up extremely well and performed without flaws as well.
