Great product, poor customer service

Too many wires. One customer service agent needs people skills badly.
I bought a SlimX 550 cd player from Newegg.com online recently. It got delivered yesterday. The headphone jack on the remote is defective and i followed the online troubleshooting. I called customer support this morning at 11am (9am CA time) and talked to Marcus. I'm not the complaining kind but, Marcus needs some training in customer relations.
I explained to him-
a. iRiver's documentation clearly indicated to contact company with any problems and not the place of purchase. He told me to contact the seller if I want anything done about this!
b. I also told him that I had already sent an email to iRiver but was calling to find out how long is the response time.- He told me ambiguously 'a very long time' and then asked me to send HIM an email with my details! ....as if he'd not heard a word about what I told him earlier!
I wouldn't judge the whole company by one person's behavior. Especially, a company that makes a great product. I bought this cd player after a lot of research and I had a lot of choice. But I chose this over the others. I'm disappointed, to say the least, firstly because the product was defective right out of the box. And secondly, by the lack of enthusiasm and eagerness of the customer support.
