With Windows XP All is well!
Pros
great sound small size.
Cons
Customer service is bad. I had to jump through hoops to get my rebate
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you have a good computer system by all means this is a good player to buy. I am not sure of older computers
I have been using this player for the past two weeks. I love the sound and the small size. The earphone quality is good! It is shiny red and great for Gym!
I have however found issues with the software.
I have a three year old desktop running windows Me. First time I tried to install the music manager using the supplied CD , it came up with the dialog offering to find the latest version of the software on the web. My Norton Antivirus immidiately flagged me that there was a virus in there and quarantined one file.
I went ahead and installed the music manager. it installed fine and I was able to transfer the music.
When I tried to stop the USB device to unplug the player, It did not show up . So I could not "safely" remove it after stopping. I tried to remove it anyway.
After this the computer froze on me. I did the hard reboot
on restart I realized that my internet was not working any more. Guess what my NIC was fried.
I do not want be unfair to the iriver player and say that it caused this. I am just reporting what happened. The NIC was a DLink cheap ($10) NIC which was working fine for the past 2 years.
I uninstalled the music manager. Put a new NIC.
I reinstalled the music manager and guess what My computer froze again.
I rebooted it and uninstalled the music manager. This time the NIC is fine and I am on the internet.
I have the player full of song and is working great but I am scared to reinstall the software.
I would like to say that it is my computer that does not get along with their software. Hopefully it is not a common problem
I love the player but I am not sure how on earth I am going to transfer music unless I buy a new computer!
It would be like buying a horse to fit a horseshoe!!

This is the update to my original review about this product.
I purchased it from Amazon.com . It had $20 mail in rebate form that I downloaded from Amazon and submitted.
A few days later I received a status saying that my rebate was invalid:
I contacted Amazon.com customer service. They sent me an email saying that the rebate matter is between me and iRiver America. They provided me with iRiver's customer service email.
I wrote to iRiver about it but they have never responded back. I don't think $20.00 is worth spending so much time over so I think I am giving up. If anyone knows of an authority that I could refer the matter to, please post that information on the comment of this review. I would like top see to it that they do not do this to anyone else.

Update 2:
Finally I succeeded in getting someone in customer service to rectify their mistake. I got my mail in rebate!
--- Update 3
Now I have a computer that runs XP. The music manager is working fine. I am able to Listen to all the music I have.

update 4: Media player plugin:
This is nice. They have a plug in for windows media playre that will let you transfer copyprotected songs you buy directly onto this iriver. I tried it by buying a song from walmart. The iriver shows up in media player alongside your CD and flash drive. You can then drag and drop the song. The license file will go with it.
