Erase the word "LOST" from your dictionary!!

Pros They say "Turn it on and go!" ... They're right!!
Cons Multiple destinations would be nice, and ability to quickly find points of interest while enroute.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  In a nutshell, this product does so much more than just get you to your destination ... try it and you'll be hooked! It's a purchase you won't regret!
There are few products that simply do what they claim to do, and it's even rarer to find something as sophisticated, yet easy to use as the Roadmate 700.

I've owned this product for exactly a month now, and I am a total convert! I should start by saying that I've NEVER had any trouble finding my way around, and this purchase is primarily for my wife's piece of mind. She is a doctor who often goes to seminars at places she's never been to before, and her sense of direction is less well developed than my own.

Having said that, I've been using the Roadmate quite a lot myself, mainly as a novelty but admittedly it's helped me out of a few unusual situations already. Let me explain...

First, entering a destination is truly so easy that a child could master it in minutes. You simply spell out the name of the city and street you want, and choose from the choices that automatically pop up on the touchscreen. Then enter the address number and you're ready to go!

The Roadmate 700 expertly tells you in plain English (or in several other languages) how to get to your destination, and it gives you several choices as to how to get there. You can choose from shortest time, shortest distance, most use of freeways or least use of freeways. If you make a wrong turn the unit immediately recalculates the best way to get you back on track!

One of the nicest features, and one a simple map can never give you, is the ability to quickly guide you to all sorts of POI's (Points Of Interest). These can be restaurants, gas stations, amusements parks or even country clubs! The really great thing is that once you find the one you want not only is the address available but also the phone number so you can call ahead if you need to!! I've used this feature several times and it's been extremely helpful.

I also like the fact that at any time you can press the "Locate" button and obtain all sorts of useful information about your exact position, including your altitude and even your exact speed! Because the satellite data is so accurate you can instantly tell whether your vehicle's speedometer is accurately reporting your speed. I discovered, for example that my new truck shows two miles per hour faster than I'm actually travelling. In the unlikely event that I get pulled over I can truly know what my actual speed was ... very cool!

The Roadmate 700 also keeps a running tab of useful information, such as average speed during your trip, as well as elapsed time. It essentually functions as a trip computer in any vehicle.

When you take all these features into account, the premium price doesn't seem so unreasonable after all, but it would still be nice if prices dropped a bit!

All in all, I highly recommend this to anyone who is directionally challenged. For those of you who don't actually need it to get to where you want to be, the other features alone may be enough to justify purchase. In any case, I sure don't want to travel without it anymore!
