Beautiful, well designed monitor

Pros Great design, height/tilt/rotate adjustable.<br>Awesome picture!
Cons A bit more expensive than the competitors
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Great widescreen monitor!
My wife recently upgraded her desktop to the HP elite (see other review) and we got this monitor for her as part of the package. I was quite impressed by the image quality and the HUGE amount of screen real estate to work with. Of course any 24" 1900x1200 monitor would give you this much space but this one does it very well.

There is about a 1" frame around the glass monitor panel but the corners are rounded and it blends in very nicely with the integrated base. The base has a knee type spring loaded hinge that lets you adjust the height of the monitor and there in a tilt hinge at the back that lets you tilt it up or down.

The monitor also has a neat rotate feature that lets you piviot the screen 90 degrees so it is tall instead of wide. This used to be a poplular feature many years ago but it has died out a bit. It would be neat if you had to work on some tabloid stlye layout stuff but I probably won't rotate it much.

Well after working on her system for a bit I realized how tiny my standard 19" LCD was . . . So I went out and bought myself one (yes I liked it that much).

I compared the other 24" LCD's at the local big store and I think the HP has just as good a picture but the overall design has a bit more style. Some of the other brands had more connections, in fact there was a Samsung that had a TV tuner included, but I don't need more than the VGA analog and HDMI input connectors. I had to get a DVI to HDMI adapter since my video card only has two DVI outputs, but everything is working great.

Realize that when you go to a monitor this big any games are going to stress your video card much more if you run in the LCD native resolution. My previous resolution of 1280x1024 compared with the new resolution of 1900x1200 means that my video card has to pump out 1.7 times as much info. This can be a problem if you try to play with graphic options cranked up. This is more of a video card problem and not the monitor's.

I played Fallout 3 a bit and things looked great but I did notice a bit of slowdown in graphic heavy parts. I will tweak the quality settings/resolution to get this the way I like them.

This monitor has a USB hub, ambient light sensor (which adjusts that monitor brightness depending on the room light, but you can disable it), and built in speakers. I won't be using the built in speakers but other reviews spoke of how bad they were so I wouldn't count on them cranking out some great tunes.

Overall I am very pleased.
