Recalling Crime & the City Solution, Codeine, and even slow rock practitioners Low in some parts, Trainer's voice delivers some spine-chilling tales in a deep baritone rasp over a minimal backdrop dominated by simple but highly effective fuzz guitar that seems ever teetering on the edge of feedback. On Air -- The BBC Sessions will ultimately be of interest only to hardcore Shamen fans, and even they may find the colledction somewhat disappointing. There's not much difference between the studio versions and these live cuts, which may be frustrating to completists -- after all, live versions should offer revelations. There are no revelations here, only competent live cuts that sound exactly like they were recorded in the studio.
