The Bottom Line:
Standalone features nice. Setup easy and smooth. Small, expensive cartridges. Expensive for use with large print jobs and as a primary printer. Customer support very difficult to obtain.
The ink that comes with the original printer are only trial size and ran out quickly (as is usually the case with most printer purchases these days). However, HP has used a sneaky tactic and has installed chips in their genuine cartridges, which generic cartridges don't have. This means that if you use any other ink cartridges other than genuine HP inks, the printer/driver will not detect the ink levels, and you will never know how much ink you have left. I bought this unit primarily for the fax/copy feature, and do still have a Canon i950 which I use for my primary printer. CANON fully supports and warranties their printers even when using generic inks, why can't HP? A sneaky tactics to try and force the hand of the consumer to buy HP brand inks! It increases the price of buying genuine HP ink when they have chips installed, and makes this printer expensive to use as a primary printer. Customer service, by phone and via internet was very difficult to obtain because of language barriers and misunderstandings. Very time consuming, very difficult to get help. This is a good unit if you are only in the market for a fax/scanner/copier. However if you need a primary printer, do your research, there are better and more inexpensive options.
