Over the years I have periodically ordered small/inexpensive items from Amazon.com and always had decent service, but up until the last few months I haven't really had any good reason to order anything substantial from them, hence the reason I couldn't really give them a solid rating. In August I was asked by my parents to upgrade their cable modem for them. After searching around the net, I kept coming up with a Motorola SB5101 from Amazon.com which ran for $47 shipped and had a $20 MIR to boot. I couldn't find any other deal that came close to that so I ordered from them. The processing and shipping took about 7 days and I got the item completely intact and it worked great. So decent service and a working item. I did receive the rebate within the 8 week period specified but that was via Motorola so I can't credit Amazon with that. Keep in mind that I always use the cheapest shipping option. Paying the extra (and horribly overpriced) shipping fees is just unwise as at most you save a couple of days. Well, enter December and me looking out for standalone HD-DVD Players. I had heard that Amazon.com had some crazy bundle deals going on and so I decided to look into it. They had the 1080i Toshiba A3 HD-DVD player with 10 free movies (2 in the box with the player, 3 instant from Amazon's website and 5 via Toshiba in the mail) for 199.98 shipped. I searched around at other websites and local stores and the cheapest I could find was $250+tax and you were only guaranteed the 2 movies in the box and the 5 extra via mail. So after reading the great overall reviews on the player I decided to take the plunge. I got the Toshiba HD-A3 with the Bourne Identity and 300 included with the player. I then selected 3 titles from a list on Amazons website. I picked: Top Gun, Serenity and Batman Begins. After totaling up the price after I ordered it came out to $218.93 shipped. I tried to figure out what was going on and contacted Amazon's customer service line. I pointed this out to them and told them what promotion I had selected and after verifying the promotion they credited the extra $18.95 back to my account and were very prompt about it and sent a confirmation e-mail. Within 2 days the money was back in my account. So for those of you looking at the 10 free promotions from amazon on the HD-DVD players be aware that you might get charged more at first so be sure you get the excess charge credited back to your account. Anyways, the item was processed and shipped to my door within 7 days by UPS (who for once delivered a package to me that wasn't beat up). I also received the 3 additional HD-DVD titles via a separate package and both the player and the HD-DVDs arrived on the same day even though one came via UPS and the other came via USPS. Pretty good since the HD-DVDs weren't supposed to arrive until tomorrow. Also pretty good given the fact that this is the Holiday season and all things tend to take longer and be more prone to damage. Once again this is using the free saver shipping option. All the products that they sent me are in perfect working order and for the price I couldn't be happier. Amazon.com is really a great place to purchase high-def equipment these days (for both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray) and they have some of the best prices/deals that I have seen on these. So for those of you interested in high def players I would definitely consider Amazon.com. They are also great for many other electronic and non-electronic items. Just be absolutely sure to check your total price if they have a promotion going just in case their promotion ends up being screwy (like my experience). Rest assured though that if you can verify your order and the promotion that they will fix the problem for you.

In a nutshell over the last few months I have had great experiences with Amazon.com between their prices, shipping and customer service. I would definitely recommend them and will not hesitate to purchase from them in the future.
