I had heard so much about ebay over the years, so many positive things, yet I never tried the service. Until one day a favorite web site of mine posted an article about how someone could make a living off of the online auction site. That's when I decided to give them a try.

After a speedy signup, I was ready to begin posting my item. It was a book, "The Rock Says", an autobiography of the wrestler. So I went through the listing process. It only took a few moments before I found an appropriate category. There are so many choices, it's hard not to find a good place to list any item. So then I found myself with a variety of options when it came to listing. Yes there is the typical description area and of course you set your minimum bid, but I was presented with some things I hadn't heard about. For instance the Reserve Price feature. This allows you to set a hidden minimum price that if the final bid doesn't meet or go above, you're under no obligation to sell.

I went through all the details one by one. The format is nice and neat, dividing each option under a general category. They even allow you to include one picture of your item for free. Additional pictures cost $.15 currently. Anyway after I had listed my item I wasn't sure what to do. I bookmarked the page my item was on and did like most other newbies to ebay do...I checked it every 20 minutes. After a few hours I grew tired and simply decided to leave it.

After a few days I noticed my book had received a few bids. Happily, I waited for the auction to end. But if you want ebay allows you to edit just about anything in your listing before the first bid. If you made a serious mistake they'll let you delete your listing. The process to do these things is fast and easy though. Also at any time you can contact your highest bidder, as they can you. That's what I think is the best part of ebay, the relationship it encourages between buyer and seller.

So after my auction ended I did like ebay told me, I contacted the buyer with all the final details. He responded within a few days and a week later the payment was there, and the book was shipped out. As a nice little reward, I went to my member page and found a positive comment left by the buyer. I did the same for him and it was a smooth transition. It was really a breeze to sell the book, much unlike what I expected. Since my first time I've sold a few more items and my experience is usually the same.

Although I can't speak for other auction sites, I know I love ebay. They provide so many options and are so easy to use. I really enjoy using this service and I'm finally getting rid of some of my old junk.
