Outstanding Small Footprint System Castrated For USA Models
Pros: Great sound from a small package. DTS is excellent in this model.
Cons: Unexplained deletion of DIVX and RDS display from USA models only Full review This system is great for use in smaller rooms or dorms. It has more than enough power to fill the listening area with quality audio. Because the satellite speakers are so small the upward facing sound port on the sub is partly used to provide some punch in the midrange so where you place the sub is more critical than in most multichannel 5.1 speaker types. Although I have a large home theater system in my living room, I purchased this system to go with the 30" monitor in my computer room when I need time to myself. My main dislikes regarding this system have nothing to do with the actual product, but rather with the Sony USA marketing decision to delete the ability to play DIVX encoded media and RDS display functions from models sold in North America when they can be found on the same models sold in other markets. Both of these features are International standards already in widespread use in the USA so the deletion of these features is puzzling. Although I would like to see 1080p upscaling I really haven't seen a real difference on other systems when the source material is a standard DVD so it wasn't an issue on my purchasing this system. |
