Sony KDL-46XBR4 46 inch LCD TV
Pros: amazing image, nice size, Sony's high end quality
Cons: none Full review My husband decided he needed a new TV, so after quite a bit of research he decided to purchase the Sony KDL-46XBR4 46 inch LCD TV. I have to say the research seems to have paid off, this is an amazing television. The 46XBR4 is a beautiful television. It is thin, sleek, and very stylish, plus that's when it's not even turned on. It can be wall mounted or placed on a TV stand. This is Sony's newest LCD flat panel TV and measures in at 46 inches. It offers 1080p HD resolution, which is truly amazing. The TV offers 3 HDMI spots, 2 in the back and one on the side. It also has 3 composite video inputs, and 2 component inputs. Finally it has 1 PC video input, which is sort of fun to use this huge TV as a monitor to show photos of your kid (or other things you want to show off). There are a lot of things you setup for your television. You can label your inputs as a DVD player or game, but unfortunately you can't specify what type of game system, which would be nice since many people will have more than one game console connected, our TV included. The remote it comes with fits well in your hand and is easy to use. It is backlit, but weirdly, not all of the buttons are labeled, so some of the backlit buttons aren't really usable unless you remember what they are since they don't have any text on them. The remote has options to Freeze the picture, easily turn on or off Closed Captions (CC), or access your Favorite channels (up to 30 channels you can store). There are tons of options with this TV through the simple to use menu system. Cinemotion and Motionflow are some better options, but make sure not to use them though if the input to the TV already does. You also have the options to change the brightness, color, hue, warmth, sharpness, and more of the picture. The TV has a PIP (Picture in Picture) and P&P (Picture and Picture) mode which since it has a 16:9 ratio appears quite nicely on the screen with two pictures next to each other. The high resolution and the way the TV calibrates and adjusts the input makes everything look just right. The detail is superb and the smoothness is great. It doesn't remove any of the frames when it displays the signal and offers a truly amazing signal. There is a parent lock option which seems to work fine. You can block channels. The only thing that is annoying is that as you go through channels scrolling down it tries to find a signal on every one. If you want to scroll down far on the channel list this can be a little tedious. But one thing about the channels is that is was very easy to get all the digital channels automatically. You have the option to use the TV speakers or an external audio system. The in-TV speakers seemed to work quite well with a crisp sound. Another feature that is nice, is the sleep feature. You can set the TV to turn off after 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, and 120 minutes. That way if you think you might fall asleep while watching TV (or you plan to), you don't have to worry about leaving the TV on all night. Overall this is an expensive TV, but Sony has done a wonderful job making this a TV with a beautiful image, good sound, and worth the money. |
