The 8x42 is the most popular and outstanding binocular configuration in the Ranger Platinum Class series. Its near-ideal combination of optics features earned it a top-10 ranking from Cornell University's Lab of Ornithology. Besides providing amazing image detail and excellent optical performance, the 8x42 Ranger offers a host of other desirable attributes, including very close focus, comfortable viewing for eyeglass wearers and multi-position twist and lock eyecups - all in an ultra-lightweight and durable waterproof, ergonomically designed package. 12x36 IS II Image Stabilisation binoculars... Improvements to the objective lens assembly have resulted in the binoculars being approximately 26% lighter and 10% smaller than the 12x36 IS model they replace. And reductions in power consumption mean a massive 270% increase in battery life of up to four hours using two AA-size alkaline batteries. With any high magnification binoculars, most users will experience frustrating image shake. Unless fixed to a tripod, image shake can render high magnification binoculars useless. Canon's IS technology is remarkably effective at eliminating this problem and is widely used by the television industry with Canon's professional broadcast quality video recording equipment. A special VAP (Vari-Angle Prism) corrective IS system sits between the objective lens group and the porro prism on each side of the binoculars. Within thousandths of a second of the binoculars being moved from their optical axis by vibrations, a detection system activates the IS mechanism. Less

Before going on vacation this year, I had some extra money and wanted to buy better binoculars than the department store specials I had been using for years. After researching the available brands, I chose the Eagle Optics Platinum Ranger 8x42. I bought them from the company's web site. I saw an... Read full review »

Pros Light, ~5' close-focusing, glasses-friendly, brilliant!
Cons Addictive!

I'm a petite person that wears glasses - these binoculars allow people with closely set eyes to comfortably look through them and eye relief is wonderful for people who wear glasses. They're light enough to keep around your neck and you barely notice them if you're wearing a harness. They're also... Read full review »
