The Canon Powershot A640 Digital Camera may be the best new digicam of 2006

byHoward_Creech Oct 14, 2006
100 Helpfuls 101 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros 10 megapixels, 4X optical zoom, full manual controls, and AA batteries
Cons Some minor chromatic aberration (purple fringing) and very high noise levels at ISO 800
Recommended it? Yes

Canon's "A" series digicams are well known for their bang for the buck, class leading performance, impressive build-quality, creative flexibility, and amazing ease of use. Last year's A620 sold especially well because Canon listened to what digital camera buyers wanted and then created a camera... Read full review »

Canon PowerShot A640 10-Megapixel Digital Camera - An Excellent Choice For Anyone

bydkozin Oct 16, 2006
48 Helpfuls 49 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros High resolution, sharp photos with pleasing colors, features, battery life, LCD, AA...
Cons Slightly flimsy construction, ISO 400-800 noisy, price a bit too high
Recommended it? Yes

A replacement for the last year's 7.1-Megapixel Canon PowerShot A620, the Canon PowerShot A640 has upgraded 10-Megapixel resolution, larger LCD screen and other improvements. As a top of the Canon A6-line, I wanted to see how it performs and purchased one as soon as it became available.

Introduction

I have a wonderful Canon Rebel SLR digital camera (not the most recent, with under 10 megapixels) and it is a workhorse. But what about when you want to slip a camera into your pocket, and you don't want to take the SLR along for whatever reason?

Pros Easy to Use, Excellent Picture Quality, Lightweight
Cons None submitted
Recommended it? Yes

My husband is a photographer and we usually use our DSLR (A nikon) but when it comes to point and shoots and having a small camera with to capture the kids at their cute/ silly/ fun moments the canon powershot a490 is where it's at. This (for the price) is the best point and shoot out there. Read full review »
