My Experience is/has been good with earlier model JVC miniDV Deck

byharrington100 Dec 7, 2003

Pros Reliable. Great copy features. Good Price.
Cons No component video out. Should have firewire port on back. Poor tech support from JVC.
Recommended it? Yes

Thought I would add my 2?. I would suggest that is all that it is worth. {grin} I have had the earlier model of this deck for 3 years. It is the JVC HR-DVS1U model. It doesn't support the DVCAM digital tape format such as this model. With that being said, I understand that basically they are... Read full review »

Pricey and not so good

bymozgo Nov 26, 2003
3 Helpfuls 4 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Ability to bring in VHS footage via Firewire into computer. S-Video out.
Cons MAJOR audio and video playback problems. Firewire connection on the front only.
Recommended it? No

I bought this unit to get miniDV footage into my Mac via FireWire. First of all, the miniDv side has major problems, as it's dropping out all the time (video) with bad fuzzy stuff flashing on the video for no apparent reason, it's not on the tape and the head is clean (I tested it). Then there is a... Read full review »

HDTV VCR only for the HDTV recording enthusiast

byChris_Gerhard Jul 2, 2004
11 Helpfuls 12 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Great HDTV picture and acceptable HDTV MPEG decoder to playback HDTV recordings.
Cons No DVI/HDMI output, no HDTV tuner, and fragile build quality.
Recommended it? Yes

I am now getting great results using this VCR but it required being shipped back to JVC to get the free firmware upgrade offered for all that need it. This model is now discontinued and has been replaced by the JVC HM-DH40000U which is reputably more reliable. JVC consumer VCRs in general are very... Read full review »

Not Compatible (currently) with Scientific Atlanta cable boxes

byholmer19 Mar 16, 2004
3 Helpfuls 4 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Recording capabilities via DVHS and S-Video look as good as quality DVD.
Cons Not able to record digital cable HD signals via Scientific Atlanta cable boxes.
Recommended it? Yes

I do not have one of these units (yet), but I felt it pertinent to pass along the following:

According to Scientific Atlanta, their cable boxes (which are used by many cable companies) do not currently have the ability to send HD or any other signals from the 1394 output on the cable... Read full review »
