The AF Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8D ED is one of three high-speed telezooms in the current Nikon lens lineup. The lens features 3 ED glass elements. This lens was upgraded to a two-touch version (meaning one ring for zoom and one for focus), and it don't have a rotating front element (big plus if you use pola, or graduated filters). The lens is nicely balanced in your hand, and you can feel the pro quality of the lens. This is a lens built to last and it is a Nikon classic. Less

Pros Extremely sharp, fast maximum aperture throughout zoom range, rugged, very good...
Cons Heavy, but not unreasonably so for a lens with this speed and optical quality.
Recommended it? Yes

Which lens am I actually reviewing? Good question. There are several versions of this lens, and it can be difficult to keep them all straight. This is the "Nikon Nikkor 80-200mm 2.8D AF Macro Zoom ED" lens (description from the box that came with the lens). It was not sold with a tripod color, it... Read full review »

Pros Awesome optics
Cons No tripod mount, HEAVY
Recommended it? Yes

This review is for the ?Push pull? "D" version of the lens not the newer two ring version (The picture above is the one I am reviewing). I have to recommend this lens to any serious photographer who wants a versatile zoom lens without giving up much performance from primes (Fixed focal length... Read full review »

Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8 Must Be the Greatest Wide-Angle Lens!

bypaulphoto Feb 6, 2003
59 Helpfuls 60 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Superb optics, solid built, super-fast AF and super-quiet operation
Cons Expensive price tag may be the one and only objection in this lens
Recommended it? Yes

My first zoom lens in the extreme wide angle was the Nikon 20-35mm f/2.8D. For me, it was a dream lens. When I bought the 20-35mm lens, the 17-35mm zoom had already been introduced. At the time, I thought a difference of 3mm in focal length was not much. As the old saying goes, "Be content with the... Read full review »

Pros very well built and useful lens with fast aperture and great viewing angle
Cons heavy and not cheap, but we cant have everything
Recommended it? Yes

This lens continues to surprise me with its performance. Outdoors, it seems you can capture limitless wide angle shots with amazing depth of field, and then look down and get a picture of a flower from nearly 6" away from the end of the lens. Each picture will turn out sharp and tightly focused... Read full review »
