The SP90mm 1: 1 macro lens retains the outstanding optical quality provided by the highly rated Tamron SP90mm it succeeds. With emphasis on portability, the lens is now considerably smaller and lighter, measuring 97mm in length and weighing only 403g. It boasts high resolving power and sharp image depiction with ideal background blur. The lens has a new focusing ring clutch, which engages and disengages the focusing gear. Now the switch between AF and MF is a simple slide of the focusing ring forward or back. This mechanism and a wide, smooth focusing ring make delicate manual focusing in the macro mode easy and precise. Connection and disconnection of the focusing gears is done by sliding the focus ring back and forth, leaving the ring properly positioned for focusing. Less

Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8 Must Be the Greatest Wide-Angle Lens!

bypaulphoto Feb 6, 2003
59 Helpfuls 60 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Superb optics, solid built, super-fast AF and super-quiet operation
Cons Expensive price tag may be the one and only objection in this lens
Recommended it? Yes

My first zoom lens in the extreme wide angle was the Nikon 20-35mm f/2.8D. For me, it was a dream lens. When I bought the 20-35mm lens, the 17-35mm zoom had already been introduced. At the time, I thought a difference of 3mm in focal length was not much. As the old saying goes, "Be content with the... Read full review »

Pros very well built and useful lens with fast aperture and great viewing angle
Cons heavy and not cheap, but we cant have everything
Recommended it? Yes

This lens continues to surprise me with its performance. Outdoors, it seems you can capture limitless wide angle shots with amazing depth of field, and then look down and get a picture of a flower from nearly 6" away from the end of the lens. Each picture will turn out sharp and tightly focused... Read full review »

Pros Superb optical quality, lightening fast autofocus, low price.
Cons Plastic feel to construction.
Recommended it? Yes

In my increasing world of photography, I need lenses to do specific jobs, a 28-200mm lens for general use, a wide-angle zoom for interiors, a 50mm standard lens for backup and a macro lens for close-up photography.
I need them to be cheap as only the 28-200mm lens is in general use and it... Read full review »

Pros Great image quality, price
Cons none

The Tamron 90mm/2.8 Macro Lens is an excellent lens for both macro photography as well as an all-purpose lens. Costing under $400 this lens rivals the equivalent lenses made by Canon and Nikon while costing less than half the price. If you have ever taken close-up pictures of your baby or of...
