Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8 Must Be the Greatest Wide-Angle Lens!

bypaulphoto Feb 6, 2003
59 Helpfuls 60 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Superb optics, solid built, super-fast AF and super-quiet operation
Cons Expensive price tag may be the one and only objection in this lens
Recommended it? Yes

My first zoom lens in the extreme wide angle was the Nikon 20-35mm f/2.8D. For me, it was a dream lens. When I bought the 20-35mm lens, the 17-35mm zoom had already been introduced. At the time, I thought a difference of 3mm in focal length was not much. As the old saying goes, "Be content with the... Read full review »

Pros very well built and useful lens with fast aperture and great viewing angle
Cons heavy and not cheap, but we cant have everything
Recommended it? Yes

This lens continues to surprise me with its performance. Outdoors, it seems you can capture limitless wide angle shots with amazing depth of field, and then look down and get a picture of a flower from nearly 6" away from the end of the lens. Each picture will turn out sharp and tightly focused... Read full review »

Tamron SP AF17-50mm f2.8 Di-II LD - An Excellent Step-Up Lens!

bysoupcraze Dec 25, 2007
22 Helpfuls 23 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Great Image Quality; Light-Weight; Solid Build; Auto Focus Speed; Wideness
Cons Won't Fit 35mm Cameras; Loud Auto Focus
Recommended it? Yes

At one point, I considered the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 XR Di II as a replacement for my kit lens, the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 USM Lens. I managed to borrow this lens from a friend who uses it as his primary lens on Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT. The lens ultimately did not appeal to me since I wanted... Read full review »

Excellent Optics at Consumer Prices

bytjapkesg Jul 28, 2008
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Great optics, price, build quality, size, aperture, 6 year warranty
Cons Noisy, no full-time manual focus, 67mm filters are pricey
Recommended it? Yes

I just bought my first SLR camera, a Digital SLR, back in November 2007. I expected to quickly outgrow the kit lens included with most cameras, and so a lot of time was spent researching and talking with friends to find the ideal lenses for me. I quickly learned the game of compromises between... Read full review »
