The FL-36 Electronic-Flash is specifically designed for Digital with an accurate 1/8 step illumination control to provide the precision required by digital cameras, while minimizing illumination reduction. The built-in wide-angle diffuser panel will allow the flash to provide even illumination with wide angle lenses like the new Zuiko Digital 14mm-45mm zoom. The inclusion of a lockable bounce and swivel mechanism offers a variety of bounce photography options including left-right, as well as top-bottom in addition to a compact zoom Head to accommodate lenses from wide angle to telephoto. The AF540FGZ Electronic-Flash unit features a large guide number of 54 (at ISO 100) and provides a variety of advanced flash applications, including advanced P-TTL auto flash, high-speed synchronisation and wireless P-TTL auto flash (when mounted on a Pentax SLR camera). When mounted on a Pentax Auto-focus SLR (after the Z-10 and including Digital Format models) equipped with an FA-, FA J-, DFA- or DA- series lens, the AF540FGZ automatically adjusts its angle of discharge to the lens' focal length. The AF540FGZ auto-flash unit also features a newly provided 'Digital' position on the focal-length conversion scale of the Zoom Head which can accommodate digital SLRs, Bounce Flash function with adjustable angles of -10 to 90 degrees vertically and up to 180 degrees horizontally, and Power-zoom flash head to cover angles of view for 24mm to 85mm lenses (in 35mm format). A Compact TTL System Flash - Great Value!

byzoltanus Feb 18, 2006
5 Helpfuls 6 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros tilt-swivel zoom head, easy-to-use external controls, even illumination, no red-eye
Cons slow recovery, no standard Pontor-Compur connectivity
Recommended it? Yes

Olympus FL-36 Flash for E-1

byrharpe Feb 23, 2006
4 Helpfuls 5 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Nice look to it, flexible angling, rotation possibilities, pretty nice programmable...
Cons Refresh sucks, (uses two batteries!) Waffer-thin hotshoe clip cracked, Olympus won't...
Recommended it? No

This flash was not everything I was expecting it to be. Read the Pros and Cons. I am using this for weddings, and I think it just doesn't hit the mark I wish it would. Anyone know of a non-Olympus flash I can use on my E-1??? I'm afraid I will never buy from Olympus ever again. Read full review »
